PENDULUM® GATES
PENDULUM® Gates were introduced to New Zealand dairy farmers in 1983 by Leask Engineering and are now accepted as a standard throughout the country and are also used across the world.PENDULUM® Gates have undergone three distinct evolutions since 1983 in order to provide optimum performance.
The PENDULUM® Exit Gate manufactured for Herringbone Dairy Parlours offers a unique design and effective control over the cow flow during milking. The gates are designed to pivot on sealed ball bearings, from a carrier beam made from 50 NB galvanised pipe. This beam is mounted approximately 1800mm above the dairy shed floor and runs between the front herringbone post and the wall at an angle to suit the position of the cows on the milking platform. The gate can be operated from anywhere along the pit by means of handles welded onto 15 NB galvanised pipe running the full length of the pit. This control rail sits behind the herringbone rail (breech rail).
On opening, the gate swings away from the operator to an over head position on the headrail side of the shed, allowing a clear exit for the cows. Individual cows can be stopped even when they are exiting in close formation. Selected cows can be drafted from the herd to be attended to after milking.
On closing, the gate is firmly locked in position. Both opening and closing operations are controlled by the operator from any position along the pit.
Advantages of having PENDULUM® Dairy Gates:
1. CONTROL of any cow exiting the dairy shed: The cows can be stopped by the gate. Milked and unmilked cows are easily separated, thus providing rapid exit and entry to the dairy shed. Individually chosen cows can be sorted on exit for drafting.
2. LABOUR SAVING: Time and effort is saved because the gates are easy to operate from anywhere along the pit.
3. POSITIVE LOCKING SOLID BARRIER: The gates are robustly constructed, galvanised and lock firmly in both the open and closed position.
4. LARGE EXIT AREA: The gates offer a large area for cows on exit, no protrusions to catch on cows hips and a clear space for the lead cow to exit the platform.
